Author and senior copywriter Kelly Gray created ‘YourStory’ to help women in business learn how to tell their stories and increase opportunities for media coverage. ‘YourStory’ helps address the disparity revealed in a study that women in business
— receive less than 30% the media coverage men receive
— are quoted less often than men in media coverage
— are more likely to not have adequate materials to market our businesses or a concise message
That a business exists is not news — but women who know how to tell their stories stand a better chance of being included in media coverage and sharing a message that resonates with stakeholders.
About ‘YourStory’
Kelly Gray created YourStory as an immersive and fun, quick experience to help women opening their own businesses, women coming out of toxic domestic relationships who are returning to the workforce, and young female entrepreneurs just starting out after college. Using her 25 years of experience as a senior copywriter and journalist, in addition to being a traditionally published author, she was inspired by a study that revealed a large disparity between women and men receiving media coverage. In response, Gray developed the program and will provide ‘YourStory’ free of charge on July 11, 2024 to Women in Trades through an Engage grant.
Attendees will learn how to write materials to help them create their stories, what editors want, how to communicate with them and basic knowledge to help women be more successful when sharing their story to consumers and media.
*** BONUS *** The ‘YourStory’ program includes real feedback from working editors in Gray’s professional network of major daily newspapers, digital platforms and magazines. Place your questions in the comments to have them answered before the event!
